It was such a wonderful
1st Birthday Celebration! It was so special to see how all the babies
had grown and to reconnect with families we have helped not only this
past year but also from my home birth practice the 5 years prior to
opening the birth center. It is so amazing to see how this beautiful
community has grown. My heart was glowing with thanks and appreciation
for not only being able to have the opportunity to help families during
such a special time in their lives but also to be able to look around
and see how many friends I have made over the years. It was also nice
to be able meet new families who are just learning about the Health
Foundations community:) Thank you all for coming and celebrating! ~
Best, Amy
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

All
the folks who helped greet families as they arrived! (Aubrey Wicks,
Meghan Pate, Mandy Herrick, Annie Goldbaum, Erin Armijo and Becky
Hanson).
And thank you to all the local businesses that donated items for our drawing! (Winners are noted after each item & have been contacted individually.)
Birth is a miracle, a rite of passage, a natural part of life.
Birth can be such a hot topic. Families
choosing out-of-hospital birth sometimes find themselves defending their
choice and work to educate their friends and family members who may not
be familiar with what it means to deliver at home or in a freestanding
birth center.
Most recently mainstream media and videos
such as "The Business of Being Born" have started educating families
that they have options when it comes to choosing their maternity care.
This film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical,
political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the
current maternity care system.
Something to watch for is a new birth documentary in the making called "Face of Birth".
Face of Birth explores the personal stories and journeys of women who
choose to have their babies at home. They are part way though filming
and are in the process of securing a broadcaster, hoping to release the
film in 2011. Click on the link above to check out a teaser of the
documentary.
Keep these two films in mind as something
to share with friends and family to give them a new perspective on why
you are choosing or chose to deliver out-of-hospital.
