Jessica H. Deflippo, Midwife, lm, cpm

Hometown: Aurora, Ill

Family: I am a widow and mother of 4 adult children and 5 grandchildren

Member of Health Foundations Team since: November of 2014

What is your role at Health Foundations? Midwife. I care for clients during their prenatal year. I partner with mothers and families to birth their babies gently and with deep respect for their wishes.

What is your educational background and training? My training in midwifery was though apprenticeship. I've also worked in externship and high volume settings in Jamaica and Frankfurt, Germany. I've continued to study extensively in complimentary and alternative medicine as adjunct to my midwifery background.

Tell us a little about your own birth: All 4 of my children were born with midwives. My oldest son was born in a military hospital. My second son was my first home-born baby. I went on to birth two more children, my daughters at home.

What is one of your favorite things to do when you are not at Health Foundations? I have so many interests...Listen to great music and design and create stained glass.

If you could get on a plane tomorrow and travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Italy.

If you could have one super power, what would it be? To ease suffering, speed healing, create peace of mind and heart.

What inspired you to get into your field? Simply put, I realized my calling. I was 19 and reading, 'Heart and Hands' by Elisabeth Davis when it occurred to me....'Become a midwife...Oh Yes!! That is what I am here to be'. It was a profound remembering.

What do you love about Health Foundations and what is your favorite part of your job? I love the families I have the great honor to know over their childbearing year. I am in love with the entire staff!

What is your philosophy on birth? Birth is meant to work. No one has arrived on this planet without being born. Ensure a mother-to-be is informed, well nourished and supported and birth happens naturally.

What advice or wisdom can you share with pregnancy or new mama readers? Gather the information you need to make informed decisions for you and your growing baby. Trust your intuition and inner knowing. You, Dear mother, are far stronger than you think you are...I know this.
